Getting here:
The two major destination airports when heading from the U.S. and Canada to BVI are St. Thomas, USVI (STT) and Beef Island, BVI (EIS). St. Thomas is often the cheaper option. Many connections to these airports are made through San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU). Some travelers save money by booking separate flights from the US to SJR, then SJR to EIS. From Europe, London Heathrow connects to Antigua, then Beef Island, or from France to St. Maarten to Beef Island.
If you fly into St. Thomas, you will need to take a ferry to Tortola. You can catch a ferry from either Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook. The folks at the ground transportation desk at the airport will be very helpful in getting you there. We prefer Charlotte Amalie, as it's a faster cab ride from the airport. Have patience through all your connections. Things slow down a bit in the Caribbean. If it was really, really fast and easy to get here, there would be too many tourists to ruin your active vacation experience.
Passport
You must have a valid passport to enter the BVI. If you do not have one or need to renew, start now.
Phone Service:
Cell phone service in BVI is spotty at best. Your best bet is to purchase a pre-paid calling card when you get to Tortola. Your yacht will have a reasonable fee-based cell phone for quick calls back home, and a computer with internet access that's quite speedy.
