Tuesday on the run.
After the gift of Monday, Tuesday morning, Poseidon brought a different vibe. We jumped in once again to Stafilos Bay with a mission to swim around the eastern point. We crossed the bay fairly protected from a stiff wind. Once we reached the cave at the point we saw a jellyfish, the stinging kind (not all are). Ok ok, let’s keep an eye out. Another, and another. I cautioned against the cave as these floaters can often get blown in and trapped. Sure enough, we peered in and saw a few. We made for the point but hopes were beginning to dim that the sea would grant us a longer swim in this bay today. Sure enough, too many to continue. There’s a certain jelly to swimmer ratio we don’t like to mess with. One or two, no big deal. A few more than that, we concede the bay. Let’s get outta here!
Back to the boat where Henry put out some fantastic snacks and we gabbed while we rinsed off. Simon and I made plans with Skipper Joao and we yanked the hook and made for Peristera Island to our Northeast. It was an exciting ride, with big wind sending spray over our decks. No one seemed to mind the show from hunkering spots around the boat. Once we anchored, lunch both warmed and cooled us - shakshuka hit the right notes on what had become a chilly day, followed by a cleansing watermelon mint salad. Don’t forget the tahini dressing to drizzle a little mediterranean on everything. Yessss.
The bay at Paralia Perstera was a good place to hide from the wind but is a skinny little slip of a thing, so not a ton of room for a lot of boats. Especially boats being piloted by skippers much less skilled than ours. It made for a bit of a show, watching amateurs zoom into the bay, desperately trying to anchor in the thermal winds created by the valley, and then sometimes zooming back out again. Joao had to be a gargoyle of sorts and defend our space - a boat needs a certain amount of room at anchor to swing in the wind - and keep an eye on who might be dropping anchor chain across ours.
Thank you, Swigs (Simon) for some awesome photo work today!
We jumped in for an afternoon swim along the eastern wall of the bay and around the point. Not a jelly in sight! Still a stiff wind, but nothing these three couldn’t handle. Simon took Kyle and Kendra on a long swim explore, while Myssie and I worked together to get back around the corner with the wind in our faces. We picked nearby landmarks on shore to crawl our way back, one small bite at a time. We were back before we knew it and even had time for a little impromptu photo shoot in front of the Greek flag. Efcharisto!
We continued to enjoy the amateur yachtsman show over cocktails and Henry’s yummy apps, and then he really stuffed us with a three course meal of carrot soup, elevated chicken tenders, a spicy potato chick pea chowder and all wrapped up with crepes for dessert.
Kendra and I skipped our nightly dip - a little cool wind sent us to our bunks without getting wet. I dropped into sleep cozy in a blanket with the fresh breeze coloring my dreams.
Love,
Heather
