On the Ground in Greens

0300 shuttle ride to the airport in rainy, cold Boston.

The long Maine winter has been eating me this year. “You’re so pale! You look poorly!” This was the first thing Lou Lou said to me when we found her and Richie in the Miami airpot en route to Grenada. And without some sunshine, I’d say I have felt rather poorly, or at the very least, not at my best.

All of that is about to change. We are on the ground here in Grenada, or “Greens” as the locals call this warm, lucious, culture rich, spicy island just 70 or so miles of the top of South America. It’s so good to be back.

Even before the sun has a chance to work its magic on me, the colors and textures of Greens brighten my winter weary soul. We’ve reconnected with old friends - we have our trusty driver, Ace, and Marlon even found us in a local snack joint yesterday. In our tiny motel room for 4, Zack was surrounded by blue getting his morning hydration on after a slightly dehydrating evening.

With me is Zack, Richie and Lou Lou, and tomorrow we will welcome my partner in crime, Hopper, and our guests for the coming week. Last night we had the fantastic tapas sampling lovingly cooked by Karen at Patrick’s Local Homestyle Restaurant, a must when you come here. We spent a belly-full night at a local motel and hit the ground running this morning.

We will be light on guests this week, as two of our dear alums scheduled to join us had a health hiccup and will not be able to make it, very last minute and very sadly. Luise and Charlie, we will miss you! Rest up and we will see you in Hawaii!

Judy and Natalie, we can’t wait to see you and swim you in the fantastic waters of Grenada. You are in for a spicy, special week.

Back to the charter base with me. Ts to cross and Is to dot while Lou Lou and crew finish the shopping.

There’s a breeze, and the sun is warm on my vitamin E starved hide. I almost feel like myself again.

Greens! So good to be back.

Love and nutmeg,

Heather
