Monday = Many Swims.

Today’s Greek Lesson:

Energy = enérgeia = ενέργεια

So yes, we all got in for our nightly skinny dip last night, and it was fun and a little more boisterous than usual with almost the entire group in the water. We all got the bioluminescence going and it was pretty thrilling. Alina and I did our usual one lap around the boat, rinse and hit bed, but even as I was tucking in, there were at least 3 of our swimmers still out there, having a high old time in the darkness. Bless.

These kids are hitting it hard this week and we are just trying to keep up! We did three full on swims today, and the night dip is yet to come. And a few of them were considering an after dinner hike. That didn't come to pass but I’m amazed they were talking about it.

I’m going to let the photos do most of the talking tonight, but our swims were fantastic with exploration of every nook and cranny of the shores we swam. First was a massive circle covering the 4 (four) islands of Varko Bay. We swam from island to island and circumnavigated each. No crack unexplored, no crevice left behind.

Our second swim (which came between second breakfast and lunch) began with a live-drop (Skipper doesn’t anchor, we jump off the boat and he pulls away) in front of a little ancient chapel called Agios Donatos on Kalamos Island. We goofed around there a bit then swam around the corner to our anchorage at Asprogiali Beach for lunch and water polo practice.

Some of our swimmers actually sat still, read books and even napped as we made our hour+ passage to Port Leone, Kalamos where we are anchored for the night.

Alina and I are just trying to keep up with this bunch!

Before cocktail hour, we explored the shores from the ancient windmill east and south from here. Beautiful cliffs, small caves, white rocky beaches, dramatic drop offs into the cerulean blue depths. So much to see and oooh and ahhh over I forget that it was our third swim of the day and even suggested we go around one more corner. It was pretty amazing.

Lunch and dinner were also amazing, with beet salad, lentil keftadas and lamb or shrimp souvlaki taking top billing. I didn’t think I had room for the warm apple parcels that came for dessert until I did.

I’m sipping my mint tea now and notice things are quiet. Ken is even asleep out on deck. I suppose they will all rally soon for our night swim. I’ll do my lap as usual…ok ok I might try to capture some bioluminescence with the goPro - but then, right to bed. Or maybe a few more minutes…their enthusiasm is infectious, if not their energy.

All told, we’ve logged 4 hours of water time today. So far. Kali nikta from the Ionian Sea. Our swimmers are swallowing it whole.

Love,

Heather
