Rum punch from leftovers.
Another early anchors aweigh, and we sailed to Carriacou, one of Grenada’s little gems in the Grenadines. A nice tail wind kept us at a brisk 7 knots, with guide John at the helm of Flamboyant, and Jason at the helm of Elvira (yes, we started this whole adventure on Halloween on a boat named Elvira). Our first stop was a bay just to the south of Anse de la Roche (beach of the rock). We planned a swim around a point, along the famous rock, then along the beach. The water was gin-clear, and the reef around the rock was like an aquarium. Guest John spied a barracuda, guest Heather picked up a stray pair of goggles, and Tracy found a sand dollar. Our turnaround point is one of my happy places: white sand, flat calm water, lots of trees and no Panera, Starbucks, or Arby’s in sight.
I did my annual “catch up” swim with Marianne. These swims are something we both look forward to and have become more chat than swim. - HP
Thank you John for capturing this moody image from Anse de la Roche today! - HP
Flamboyant had a mechanical problem this morning, so when we pulled into Tyrell Bay, Captain Touché made a call to a guy who came out to fix it as Jason, Zack, and Jemima dinghied into town to Check us into Grenada and pick up a few provisions.
Another big leap, a 3-hour sail to Isle de Ronde. It’s for sale at $135M so if you’re interested……. Anyway, it’s totally undeveloped and has a great anchorage and a great reef to swim along.
It’s also got a spot where calm bay meets VERY big water and it’s fun to toe the edge. Heather did her swimmer portraits with each guest and we all lingered in the water for a while and checked out the beach.
I snorkeled along the reef with the intention of looking for only the tiny things. Getting right up close to a reef, you can really see the diversity, crabs, worms, anemones, sponges, clams, coral, shrimp, and tons of other stuff. I ignored the turtles and the porcupine fish.
I slapped together a rum punch with a dozen lemons, the juices we had remaining, 2 kinds of rum, grenadine to make it red, and bitters. Jemima laid out chicken fajitas that disappeared quickly. So many stars tonight!
