Monday Magic.

Stormy skies made our morning swim quite dramatic.

I love a Monday that begins with one of our old favorite swims then ends with a new favorite swim. That’s what we had today.

We started at Amarandos Cove on Skopelos - you know, the one with one amazing site after another. We cruised along the shore, into the T with a cave at each end, out of there and into the fjord. Out of there and over to the point with the deep swim through, where I picked up another rock on the bottom for our Richie Rome. Like I do every time. Like I always will. It was all so beautiful and thrilling. Just like always.

Here’s a little video of our magical Monday morning swim.

Back on board, hot chocolate was waiting. Thank you Henry! We chugged along in the wind and swell to a new spot on the southeastern shore of Skopelos. From the deck we saw a relatively calm place where there were boulders and caves and whoopsie daisy I guess we better just stop here and check it out. First some lunch, a quick nap, then ok let’s go.

By the time we got in it was bouncy, but no matter, we charged ahead and discovered a swim through into an open sky room, many passable crevices between huge boulders. One led to a secluded beach where we had total protection from wind and wave - an eden of orange rocks and turquoise water.

Back out into the bounce, we rounded a gnarly corner but the payoff was a bay of caves. Of course we went into them all, and there was even a small long cave inside of a bigger cave which technically makes it a cave squared. There was a steamy beach way at the end of the tunnel. It was a little oddly moist for comfort so we marvelled and left pretty quickly. Still. Have you ever been in a cave squared?

Kekau jumped from a cliff and we made our way back to the boat. We crossed to the Island of Alonissos where the shoreline has a slightly different feel.

And here’s a quick look at our new swim spot on the edge of Skopelos!

Cocktails, snacks, a fantastic curried dinner. We are tucked into Patitiri Harbour tonight for a little extra protection from the wind. Henry and Joao went into town for a few provisions and Joao made a new (mew) friend. Simon had a thing - he cut his finger pretty badly trying to squeeze through some crack in a rock. While making everyone cocktails, he got some lime juice in the cut. He’s still crying. He’ll be ok!

We are all pretty well cooked tonight, bellies full, a cool breeze will lull us all to sleep. We are making the most of new places that the wind is forcing us into. Lucky for us, Greece doesn’t have many bad places to hide.

Heather

PS. Don’t miss Joao’s poem below!

Not only do you get two videos tonight, but bonus, you also get a poem by our very own Joao (who also went ashore and made a new friend this evening).

Dirty water,
of a clean soul,
pending thoughts
from torn currents.

I dive into your bed,
gentle the sway;
I purify sorrows
and exhale relief
for having
touched you.

Dirty water,
always clean,
unshaken
by the torment.

You wait and transform
to the rhythm of time,
which has no time.

You settle low
humble
you do not show.

Raw strength
all you gather,
life you give
because
you are it.

Water, water,
drop by drop…
