Tuesday Through.

The wind.

No problem, back to one of our new favorite hiding spots - the south west tip of Alonnisos.

We jumped in, swam hard for about 500 meters to the wall. Cruised along the wall and around a point. Into a crevice to….surprise! A waterfall! It’s not every day you (or we) swim up to a waterfall, so this was a hit. We played in it for a bit, but this group likes to keep moving so not for long!

On to the rock water playground where Rick discovered he LOVES to swim through. Under, between, swim on through. He surfaced from his third or fourth and looked at me. I said, Uh oh, Rick. You’re hooked! He agreed.

We swam around the inside of the bay and found a few swim throughs we missed last week, thanks to Kekau’s early scouting. Then on to a few more between the wall and the boat. We covered about 1.5 miles and 7 or 8 swim throughs! Satisfying! A little chilly though, but nothing HOT CHERRY JUICE couldn’t fix! Henry!!! I didn’t even know that was a thing! Hot cherry juice. Delicious and sooooo warming.

Here’s a little video from our morning waterfall swim through swim!

Yank the hook, out around the corner to check one of our fav spots.

The wind.

See ya Alonnisos! We beat it back to Skopelos in search of cover. We work hard to find shelter for our swims and our guests’ comfort. Sometimes we do such a good job at that, they have no idea how windy it is out there. A few of them came to ask me where we were going and I took the opportunity to show them the Windy app and our location. This little look at how the sausage is made was appreciated, and maybe even made our afternoon swim even better, since we found a pocket of calm along an uninhabited stretch of Skopelos shoreline we’ve never swum before.

The sky has been a moody character today, so it was a little chilly. Everyone decided they wanted to SWIM, and so we jumped in and got right to business. We covered another mile and a half in short order, with very few stops. The stops we did make were because we have a Hawai’ian with us, Kekau, amazing spotter of things. He found an eel, many cool fish and the real show stopper, an octopus. Finding octopus is in this guy’s blood, and it never ceases to amaze me. I mostly know what to look for - a well curated and manicured “garden” of rocks and shells in front of a dark little hole are usually a dead give away, but this guy can spot one 20 feet down while cruising fast along the wall. He managed to coax it out and everyone got a good look at one of the ocean’s most incredible creatures.

This octopus was hard to spot but not for Kekau.

Texture was one theme of our afternoon swim spot.

We sprinted home, climbed aboard and Joao moved us to a safe anchorage for the night. Henry knocked dinner out of the park with two kinds of fish, roasted potatoes and salad, followed by a banana cream chocolate cake. We earned it.

The wind is just a breeze in our safe little hold for the night. That breeze will keep us cool as we sleep and rest thoroughly worked muscles. Swimming through, swimming hard, seeing it all no matter what the weather brings.
