Thoroughly Thursday
First, a few pics from last night. The guests and Simon and Kekau hit Skopelos town for dinner and had a blast. I decided to move my body a little and grabbed a bite with Joao and Henry at the local taverna just a few hundred yards where our boat. My reward was an hour of great company, a sweet cat loaf and a beautiful sunset. A good night’s rest and this mermaid is ready to yet the gills again!
The wind calmed some but we are well committed to the western shore of Skopelos and had such fun on a stretch here last week, we decided to grab a spot early this morning and just sit here all day. Thank you Joao for the early morning move!
Our morning swim was a solid 2 mile swim - we blew to a point south, then worked our way back along the beach and cliffs.
Kekau continues his wildlife show, and found a baby octopus that was as curious as we were and came out to say hello, a cuttle fish, an adorable flounder and a lionfish (boooooo invasive species).
Watching Kekau be so excited and curious about a new sea and it’s quirks and corners, but also maintaining his gift for finding and attracting wildlife has been nothing short of a joy. I pulled him into a stone room with an underwater entrance we found last week and he was so amazed. Amazing a Hawaiian waterman is no small thing. It’s been a highlight of the trip for me. The morning swim was a thrill and a good workout that earned us lunch and naps.
I had closed my eyes for maybe 30 minutes when I heard the scuttling of our swimmers ready to go for the afternoon swim. Ok!
We swam hard to the point and then squarely announced that we were going to explore meander and play our way back. Catherine and Patrick needed a little more so they continued on! Good for you guys - you’ve got more left in the tank than me!! The rest of us went in every nook crack and cranny allllll they way back to the boat.
A note about Rick. He showed up fit as a fiddle and ready for whatever we could throw at him. Day one when I showed him a swim through, he looked at me like I was crazy. 4 days and a few scratches later, I can’t keep Rick out of caves and tunnels and swim throughs. And why would I? The guy is game and loves to swim through. Cheers, Rick! You made today a blast.
On our last stretch we bumped into Joao having a swim. Of course I dragged him underwater and into a rock room. I believe he loved it. I believe you would too, so please come to Greece so we can show you. You won’t regret it.
Simon made some sort of smash for cocktails and Henry put out some delish dips and the light got great and these 5 friends sat on the bow and gabbed and laughed and ooohed and ahhed at the sky. Rick sent a sunset photo in our whatsapp group with the caption “Beautiful sunset with wonderful new friends.” We agree Rick.
New friends are sitting in the dim, chatting quietly, listening to music. It’s our last night out at sea, as tomorrow we swim twice then head back to port. I can barely believe these two weeks in Greece are nearly done.
But let’s not talk about that now. Let’s rest and take on Friday and everything this crazy place has to offer.

Here’s a little video recap of our day! Thank you to Simon and Kekau who have been contributing videos and stills this week! XO
